The Rock'n'Roll Era was a 53-volume series issued by Time-Life during the late 1980s and early 1990s, spotlighting songs from the early years of the rock and roll era, primarily the pre-Beatles era of 1954-1964. The first major and successful rock music-intensive subscription music series released by Time-Life, songs on the series included music heard on mainstream contemporary hit radio stations of the late 1950s and early to mid-1960s.
There were no pre-rock & roll counterparts to Sam Phillips, who parlayed a tiny Memphis label with a staff of one into a company whose artists sold millions of records throughout the world. In record-business terms, rock & roll meant that small, formerly specialized labels like Sun, Chess and Specialty were invading the upper reaches of the pop charts, long the exclusive domain of the major corporate record labels and old-line Tin Pan Alley music-publishing interests. RCA had Elvis, but most of the early rock & roll hits were on regionally rooted indie operations. Most of the major labels, as well as the established music publishers that had been the industry’s backbone for more than a century, reacted slowly to the rock & roll onslaught, and most were definitely not amused by it.

He did it all on this album in his own quirky manner. Lots of ballads, but there is no substitute for Southern Man for absolutely rockin’ out. Then another new rock sound emerged with Emerson, Lake and Palmer. This is the original Texas Blues man. Bootin’ Me ’Bout sets the stage for all of the blues rock ’n’ roll artists from the 1960s, like Cream or The Byrds. I’m picking this record because the topic is a familiar theme in rock ’n’ roll - teenage sexual frustration. The topic of sex always sells rock ’n’ roll. Rock Operas and album versions gave FM DJ’s something to put on the turntable while they went and smoked a joint in the john. I do agree with many folks that The Beatles - Rubber Soul - was a huge influence. Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon.
And rock & roll as an American musical form is very much like a delta, collecting elements from jazz, blues, country, gospel, R&B, show tunes, and whatever else was floating around into a high-charged, rambunctious music that defined and drove pop culture across the backwaters of the 20th century and into the 21st. where rock & roll began isn't exactly answered here, this set makes for a fascinating tour through some wonderfully cool and classic stuff like Amos Milburn's rollicking "Chicken Shack Boogie," Tampa Red's desperately frantic "It's Tight Like That" (from 1927), and Les Paul and Mary Ford's timelessly amazing "How High the Moon," the first single in the.
And the last thirty seconds of the record pick up steam with the kind of unhinged energy that would become an essential element of all great rock records.
