Grateful Dead is an album by rock band the Grateful Dead. Released in October 1971 on Warner Bros. Records, it is their second live double album. Playing in the Band" received a good amount of airplay, and became one of the Dead's most played songs in concert (a studio version was released the following year on rhythm guitarist Bob Weir's solo album Ace). The Grateful Dead is the debut album of the Grateful Dead. It was released by Warner Bros. Records in March 1967. According to the biographies of both bassist Phil Lesh and drummer Bill Kreutzmann, the band released the album as San Francisco's Grateful Dead. The album was primarily recorded at RCA's Studio A, in Los Angeles, in only four days. The band had wanted to record the tracks in their hometown of San Francisco, but no recording studios in the area had modernized equipment at the time

The Grateful Dead will issue Pacific Northwest ’73 – ’74: The Complete Recordings box set featuring six previously unreleased shows on September 7 via Rhino Records. The band and Rhino will also put out highlights from the set as Pacific Northwest ’73 – ’74: Believe It If You Need It and will release their performance from May 19, 1974 at Portland Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon on vinyl. The shows contain some of the most famous moments in Grateful Dead live history, including the ‘Bird Song’ from Vancouver ’73, the Portland ’74 ‘Truckin jam, and the 47-minute ‘Playing In The Band’ from Seattle ’74.
