The WHITNEY album turns 32! "Whitney" set several records on the charts. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart becoming the first album by a female artist to do so. The album remained at the top for eleven consecutive weeks, creating a record; the most cumulative weeks (25 weeks) at number one on the albums chart by a female artist during the 1980s. Its first four singles - all peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Whitney the first female artist to achieve that feat. Whitney Houston fans got a surprise late last week when her estate released a cover of Steve Winwood’s & Chaka Khan’s Higher Love, featuring a new production bed by Norwegian DJ and producer Kygo. That surprise was 30 years in the making.

Houston appeared in a number of films. Her first starring role was in " The Bodyguard " (1992), who's soundtrack won the 1994 Grammy Award for Album Of The Year. Houston's single from it, "I Will Always Love You" (a Dolly Parton song), became one of the best-selling singles in music history. Houston was the daughter of soul/gospel singer Cissy Houston and cousin of Dionne Warwick and Dee Dee Warwick.
