Take Cover is the tenth studio album by Seattle-based progressive metal band Queensrÿche, released on November 13, 2007. It consists of cover versions. The idea to release an album of cover songs came from a game of "name the riff" guitarists Michael Wilton and Mike Stone would play during sound checks. The band members agreed to each choose two songs to record for the album. Its release was announced by the band on August 28, 2007
Queensrÿche’s Take Cover is an ambitious covers project. While kicking out several g a chunky rendition of Sabbath’s Neon Knights, in which Geoff Tate channels Dio’s operatic flights-they also push into prog rock, Woodstock anthems, and New Wave. Ratcheting up the paranoia of Pink Floyd’s original, their version of Welcome to the Machine oozes the same dystopian metal vibe as their album Operation: Mindcrime, and the titanic Bullet the Blue Sky transforms U2’s indictment of American imperialism into pounding hard rock. Their highly anticipated release after Empire, Promised Land, was, in my opinion, their last feeble effort at creating anything of quality, with scatterings of good song ideas here and there, but none of them ever really reaching either full potential.
9 Take Cover and American Soldier (2007–10). 0 Dedicated to Chaos (2010–12). 1 Rising West, confrontation, split and lawsuit with Geoff Tate (2012–2014). After the EP tour, Queensrÿche travelled to London to record their first full-length album. The band worked with producer James Guthrie, who had worked with Pink Floyd and Judas Priest. Released in September 1984, The Warning showed the band in an early stage of development, playing classic heavy metal songs.
