Album The Things We Make. A Beautiful Shape Lyrics. I'm gloomy as my oldest pair of shoes I'm happy as the smile upon your face I'm drunk like a soldier after war I'm waiting like a gaoler on death row. A quiet life with my wife Is all I need for goodness sake The things I make they have no use But they have the most beautiful shape
The Things We Make is a passionate rock album that calls to mind both the moody music of Pink Floyd and the artistry and melodic sense of the Velvet Underground. Through ten songs, the band displays a complex matrix of inspirations; "European Me," for instance, sounds like a collaboration between Joy Division and Bardo Pond. For You" speeds along like a U2 anthem infused with the abstraction of Radiohead. It's quite clear that the members of Six by Seven took their time to perfect the songs on The Things We Make. Their dedication, their attitude, and their sonic attack all derive from the band's intensity and focus. The Things We Make rocks harder, and with more style, than most albums of its time.
Their first album, The Things We Make was released the following year, after which they began headlining their own shows, as well as touring with Ash, Manic Street Preachers, The Dandy Warhols, and Placebo. In May 1998, they were asked to play a live session on the John Peel Show, and recorded four more sessions over the next four years. Their second album, The Closer You Get was released in 2000. Sam Hempton left the band shortly thereafter. Pete Stevenson takes over Paul Douglas' role on bass. July 2007 saw the internet release of a new album recorded solely by Olley and Flower.
