Skipper John Kolius, the helmsman making Australians nervous, is toughening his crew with practice sessions far more grueling than the America's Cup races. With the additional advantage of spending two Australian summers living and practicing in Fremantle, Kolius contends his two 11-man crews made the physical and psychological adjustment to the foreign terrain far ahead of the other contenders for the right to battle the Aussies for the Cup. 'For us, returning to Australia for our third season is like going back home,' Kolius said, taking a break from his 5:30 . workout before another session in US-46, the NYYC's third and last l2-meter built for the challenge.

Darn Tough vs. Kirkland: I bough a pair of wool boot socks (Kirkland, which is Costco's store brand) and these held up very well over the course of a winter. They started to wear thin in the heel, but nothing drastic. My Darn Tough socks have been 1/2 through a winter and still seem to be the same as they were when I got them. What really seems to put Darn Tough over the top (vs the Kirkland) is the 100% guarantee they give you. In addition, I have a pair of Darn Tough running socks that I wear everyday (and run . miles in, everyday) and they are like-new after over a year's use.
