Clan of Xymox is the debut studio album by Dutch dark wave band Clan of Xymox, released 1 July 1985 by 4AD. The album was produced by 4AD co-founder Ivo Watts-Russell and recorded at Palladium Studios in Edinburgh. The remixes included on the album ("A Day" and "Stranger") were mixed and produced by John Fryer at Blackwing Studios in London
Clan Of Xymox were now not only inhabiting the arthouse but filling dance floors in the more discerning clubs. October 1988 saw the band and 4-AD part company. Encouraged by label boss Ivo they signed to Wing, a left of centre subsidiary of media monolith PolyGram. The band shortened their name to Xymox and gave the world 1989's "Twist of Shadows" album, their debut for Wing. It was in many ways a bold record and it showed that being signed to a major concern wasn't going to stifle a natural sense of musical adventure. Clan Of Xymox continues their shows in 2010. May 20, 2011, on Ronny Moorings’ birthday, the 13th studio album "Darkest Hour" was released. So far it reached no. 3 in the DAC charts in Germany and still is climbing.
Clan of Xymox, also known as simply Xymox, are a Dutch rock band formed in 1981. Clan of Xymox featured a trio of songwriters - Ronny Moorings, Anka Wolbert, and Pieter Nooten - and gained success in the 1980s, releasing their first two albums on 4AD, before releasing their third and fourth albums on Wing Records and scoring a hit single in the United States. Their 1980s releases included synthpop/electronic dance music

Clan of Xymox (also known as Xymox) blend an eclectic and vibrant mix of darkwave, synthpop, and gothic rock. From the Netherlands, Xymox was established in 1983 in Nijmegen by frontman Ronny Moorings and then live-in Anke Wolbert. Clan of Xymox (also known as Xymox) blend an eclectic and vibrant mix of darkwave, synthpop, and gothic rock. Their first EP, "Subsequent Pleasures" added Pieter.
Originally formed in Holland in 1983 as Xymox, Clan of Xymox became one of the pioneers of the dark and moody electronic music that later became known as darkwave. They released one mini-album, 'Subsequent Pleasures', as Xymox, then released two albums and a number of singles on 4AD as Clan of Xymox. They shortened their name to Xymox again in 1988 and signed to a subsidiary of Polygram. Their releases as Xymox were in a more synth-pop/dance music vein
Listening to Clan of Xymox's self-titled LP is like entering a club of black-clad vampires in the mid-'80s. That's not meant as an insult; the album captures a certain time and place. The record epitomizes Ben Folds Five's hilarious discovery in "Battle of Who Could Care Less": "See I've got your old ID/And you're all dressed up like the Cure. This moody, atmospheric record is as dated as a bumper sticker from a "rock of the '80s" radio station.
