Abecedarians – Smiling Monarchs. Label: Factory – FAC ONE HUNDRED SEVENTEEN. Format: Vinyl, 12", 45 RPM, Single. Smiling Monarchs has a big beat with loud keyboards. I actually prefer the faster b-side "Benways Carnival". The material that appeared on Eureka & Resin doesn't like these 2 songs at all. Artist: Abecedarians. Abecedarians were a Los Angeles based trio active in the mid to late 80's. Chris Manecke (guitar, vocals, keyboards), Kevin Dolan (drums) and John Blake (bass) specialized in reverb heavy, synth driven post-punk songs. Manecke's rich vocals and unusual lyrics were the most distinctive aspects of this little known band.
